Our Tools
Some of the tools we use include:
1) Emotional intelligence surveys
Much has been made of the importance of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace; research shows that leaders who are able to understand and control their emotions achieve greater workplace performance, results, and success and this positively impacts on other areas of their lives.
Swinburne University researchers, the developers of the Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment, have defined EI as "the capacity to deal effectively with one's own and others' emotions".
This EI assessment is available in individual and 360 degree formats. The individual version reflects the individual's knowledge of their inner self or 'self-concept'. In this context, self-ratings provide information about the way an individual sees themselves dealing with emotion in the workplace. This assessment contains a series of 64 statements to which participants are asked to indicate the way they typically think, feel, and act at work.
The 360 degree assessment is generated from others' assessments of the individual as well as their own self-assessment. Ratings from others (i.e. managers, direct reports, peers) are based on an individual's outward displays or 'behaviours' and therefore reflect the way others see the individual typically dealing with emotions at work. The 360 degree version is a 'rater' format. It asks participants to indicate the way the subject typically thinks, feels, and acts at work in relation to their emotions.
In both formats, the reports generated rate subjects against five EI competencies. These competencies are:
-
Emotional Recognition and Expression: The ability to identify one's own feelings and emotional states and the ability to express these to others.
-
Understanding Emotions: The ability to identify and understand the emotions of others.
-
Emotions Direct Cognition: The extent to which emotions and emotional knowledge are incorporated in decision-making and problem solving.
-
Emotional Management: The ability to manage positive and negative emotions both within oneself and others.
-
Emotional Control: The ability to effectively control strong emotional states experienced at work such as anger, stress, anxiety, and frustration.
2) 360 degree surveys
Greyhair also develops and administers a range of 360 degree surveys based on client needs. Whether conducted on-line or in-house, these surveys are designed to ensure confidentiality and to provide valuable information about the workplace with regard to various topics of corporate interest.
Common survey topics we have administered in the past include leadership behaviours, coaching competencies, employee satisfaction, and work-life balance.
3) Structured tutorials
If you have a specific learning need that must to be quickly addressed we can provide you with a structured learning program delivered by a university tutor or lecturer. Instances where this might be considered include:
-
You have been promoted into a role that assumes that you have prior knowledge about, for example, branding, marketing, or manufacturing. You need to get a quick grasp of the fundamentals as they apply to your particular circumstances.
-
You have moved into a regulated environment that you are unfamiliar with and you need to quickly understand the framework as it applies to your particular circumstances.
-
You have recently been transferred to Australia and need to develop an understanding of the labor relations environment and legal framework in a limited amount of time.
Each tutorial is tailored to your specific needs and is delivered at a time and place that best suits your schedule.
